GRAMMAR

MONDAY (12/11/2012)

Hello. Let us learn about prepositions.

Prepositions are words that are used before nouns or pronouns to show their relationships with other words in a sentence. They show us the location (or position), direction or time.

Prepositions of location such as 'in', 'on', 'at', 'behind', 'under' and 'in front of' show where something is.
Examples :
1.The book is on the floor.
2.There is a cat under the tree.
3.The stranger is standing at the gate.

Prepositions of direction such as 'to', 'from', 'across', 'up', 'down', 'over' and 'through' show direction.
Examples :
1.The man ran across the road.
2.The cheetah climbed up the tree.
3.We passed through the tunnel before we reached Taiping.

Prepositions of time such as 'on', 'in', 'at', 'from', 'to', 'by', 'before', 'after', 'since' and 'during' show time.
Examples :
1.Mei Mei reached Ipoh at 3 p.m.
2.Lina's piano class is on Mondays.
3.Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452.
